Bill Wilson 1955 Talk on 12 traditions

BILL WILSON - TRADITIONS TALK ST LOUIS, MO JULY 1955 This recording was made at the 1955 AA Convention in St. Louis, Missouri. On this recording, Bill Wilson tells how each of the 12 Traditions came about, and how they work to maintain AA unity and service. Many of the stories are funny as he is telling them but were very troubling at the time they occurred. This is a good example of Bill not taking himself too seriously and how trouble properly dealt with can bring about great good. A good bit of AA history is also touched upon as some of the pivotal moments are discussed in light of the traditions that came about as a result of them. There are also insights into proper attitudes and how the AA program is meant to be lived.

Bill Wilson Evolution of Alcoholics Anonymous Service W Bill Wilson ~ The Evolution of AAs Service Structure ~ A Talk given before a gathering of people involved or interested in organized AA Service. ~ Probably a New York City Intergroup Meeting ~ Unknown Date ~ Talk is followed by a lively Question and Answer Session in Which Bill Wilson answers a variety of questions about AA Service and Alcoholics Anonymous in general. ~ There was no date on tape source tape but Bill W says "Those of you familiar with AA COMES OF AGE..." which was first published in 1957. ~ Bill starts the talk by explaining how AA generally takes "The Middle Course" in most matters. ~ He illustrates his point by explaining the divisions of opinion of the writing of the Big Book back in 1937. There were radical publicists who wanted everything possible and lots of it. Opposing them on the other end of the spectrum were the people who didn't want the Book or anything else. The majority wanted something without the excesses of either extreme. The Middle Course. ~ He describes the evolution of a single groups service structure from self made founders to group representatives chosen by the group. ~ He uses a sketches of pyramids to illustrate his talk. How Intergroup and General Service similarly evolved. The Evolution of World Services, Works Publishing, Grapevine etc. Intergroup and the role of Clubs ~ This talk really displays the genius of Bill Wilson's thinking. Simple without oversimplification. ~ Questions and Answers ~ Clubs, the relationship of Intergroup to General Service, Problems other than Alcoholism, and relationships to other 12 step organizations among other subjects. ~ A Very Historically Significant AA Talk ~ V

Bill Wilson Two Special Recordings Recording One- 1956 Weekday Radio Interview with Bill Wilson. Really good stuff. two Non-Alcoholic interviewers ask Bill "Who is an Alcoholic?" and "What makes one Alcoholic?" Bill's answers are very good, straightforward, and practical. Very down to earth simple explanations. There is also some genre value - The old radio show is a thing of the past so the vintage is very interesting. Recording Two- The Harry Green Phone Call. The Early Texas AAs had some tough questions about AA Traditions. They wanted to do something and there were some objections and questions of "12 Tradition Ethics". They called Bill and recorded the conversation(with his approval). ~Bills answers to their questions are very enlightening and give one a snapshot of how their author meant for the 12 traditions to be applied. Buy the recording to hear his advice.
